Pictured above are current students Kurt Biesiek and James Heerdegan, old boy Paddy Gower and some guy and his assistant. Our guys were attending the Student CHOGM as media delegates. Paddy took them under his wing for the afternoon and showed them the real media ropes. Always good to see one generation bringing the next one through.
Sad news this week of the sudden passing of old boy Leo Hagenson who was in his early 50's. Leo had also had sons through the College in more recent times.
We have also been made aware of the recent passing of Michael MacKay who left FDMC in 2005. Michael was only 27.
In both cases we can assure their families of our continued thoughts and prayers for both themselves and those who have departed.
Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord,
Let perpetual light shine upon them
And may they rest in peace
A page from the student newspaper The Echo from Term 1 1963 is reproduced below. It is interesting to contemplate how our story many and core values remain the same after 50 years.
We spoke a few weeks ago about our old boys climbing the rugby referee ranks. Thanks to Isaac Trevis for sending us this image and heads up about a couple of old boys on a big football stage. Lets hope Campbell and Isaac can make it to an even bigger stage in Russia 2018.
You may be aware that on Tuesday night, English Premier League team Newcastle United defeated Sydney FC 4-0 at Forsyth Barr Stadium in Dunedin in front of around 10,000 people. The referee for the match was FDMC old boy Campbell-Kirk Waugh. He had a solid match and performed very well. I was fortunate enough to be fourth official for the match, while we were joined by Assistant Referees Simon Lount (Auckland) and Hayden McCabe (Christchurch).

Old Boy and past Principal Br Peter Bray is currently the Vice Chancellor of Bethlehem University. We received this letter from him which speaks of the current situation that surrounds him. It gives us pause for thought and prayer over how lucky most of us are to be living in New Zealand.
Greetings as the awful situation here continues without light at the end of the tunnel.
A reminder on the front page of today's Daily News that our old boys do not only excel at over competitive sports. Ciaran Forsythe is off to Ireland to act as an "escort" for the Rose of Tralee Pagent. Obviously selected for his charm, manners and all round good looks we will expect Ciaran to do us all proud and keep a close eye on all the beuties
You will find FDMC old boys in all walks of life and a huge variety of sporting endeavours. A great example is Shane Whitehead (pictured) who is about to take a shot at the big time with WWE wrestling. We wish him all the best and you can read more of his story here.
